It is a sequel that expands on the first game and includes all 12 factions from the original tabletop game and its expansions: the Imperial Navy, Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus, Necrons, Chaos, Aeldari Corsairs, Aeldari Craftworld, Drukhari, the T’au Merchant and Protector Fleets, Orks, and Tyranids.

The Gathering Storm and the 13th Black Crusade provide the setting for three campaigns focused on the Tyranids, the Necrons, and the Imperium. The game also features improved gameplay, larger battles, more customization options, improved multiplayer, and cross-platform multiplayer support.
