Combat Mission Black Sea is a military simulation set during a fictional series of escalations between Russia and Ukraine that leads to open conflict in the summer of 2017. As Russian forces move into Ukrainian territory, Ukrainian forces defend their country against a numerically and technologically superior opponent.

The situation draws NATO’s advanced rapid deployment forces into the conflict to check the Russian advance. The result is a depiction of contemporary near-peer tactical warfare.

It features detailed, highly researched American, Ukrainian, and Russian units, including Mech Infantry, Motor Rifle, Stryker, and Armored formations. The game also includes Active Protection Systems, UAVs, precision guided artillery munitions, four campaigns, 22 standalone scenarios, and Quick Battle maps.

Gameplay covers battalion and below scale combat in a 3D environment, with command of individual vehicles, teams, and squads. It includes Fog of War, Spotting, Line of Sight, Command & Control, weather and lighting effects, RealTime or WeGo play, an editor, and single player, head to head, and PBEM support.
