It is the year 1400, in the late Middle Ages. Europe is entering a period of change, as towns grow in independence, power, and wealth under the rule of the bourgeoisie and businessmen.

New businesses are flourishing and bringing financial strength and political influence to a growing economy. At the same time, crowded town streets are affected by epidemics, disease, thieves, and highwaymen.

The game includes the original game plus its expansion pack. Players can choose between different paths, from micromanaging a factory to rising in the city, and may use blackmail, kidnap, sabotage, or buying their way into a higher position in the government.
