The Definitive Edition adds image-based lighting, upgraded unit textures, improved world lighting, unit reflections, more detailed shadows, surface gloss, and emissive lighting. All units have texture upscaling of at least four times their original resolution.

It is now on a 64-bit platform and includes an integrated Mod Manager. The edition is compatible with over 20 years of Community Mods, and also features an improved gameplay camera, increased draw distances, and an optimized HUD and screen layout for modern widescreen viewing.
