Not really a Mission Op, more like an audition...

You begin with a given Team of 2 Bushwackers and a Razorback. Giving your mechs their own Team ID (CTRL-1-9) can be very handy in ordering and picking out individual mechs in a close furball, so name the 2 Bushwackers #2 and the Razorback #1 before you move out to the Airfield. When you get there, destroy the Hangar. Afterwards, sit there for a minute until the Infantry Units emerge from the barracks and start pestering you. Using the Command "Ctrl-H" (for Hold Position), force the units to fire on the little guys without chasing them all over in the crowded airfield.

target practice

After the fleas are wiped out, move slowly North, taking out the various Centipedes on your way. At the connecting land bridge to North Island are a few nasty Long-Range Missle trucks, which can seriously chew up these Green troops in their stock mechs, so use the RUN/ATTACK command (spacebar) to take them out quickly. At this point, TacOps will suggest you repair your mechs. If you haven't taken too much damage, ignore this suggestion (you'll see why later).

The suave, sophisticated Urban

You'll find several Urban Mechs and a handful of Centipedes to begin with, just on the other side of the forest at OpPoint 4. Since Urbans are a short-range mech, and slow, use the Bushwackers for their advantage in both reach and speed. Use the Razorback to hop around plinking 'Pedes.

After you've put down the Urbans, TacOps suggests you salvage an Urban. Don't! Save those precious RPs... you need to have 10000 in reserve for the end.

Just East of the land bridge to West Island is an abandoned/destroyed installation. Position the Bushwackers behind the trees to the left there, and hop the Razorback to the edge of West Island. You'll get sensor contacts from a wave of Centipedes and LRMs, and you'll hear "mech powerup detected." This is your target: a Starslayer. You want this mech very, very much; you won't see them for sale for this entire campaign, and it is critical to your success on Carver V.

Baby, I'm-a want you

So race the Razorback around popping LRMs and use the Bushwackers to subdue the beast. If you haven't needed to repair, you'll be able to salvage two mechs; the 'Slayer and an Urban. If you only have 10000 RPs left, grab the the Starslayer, because you won't be able to buy it in an after-mission salvage screen this time.

This is a trial Op, so you get no chance to buy the other Urban mech as salvage either like you will from here on out, but you have a premier mech to begin forming your core team (the 'Slayer) and an additional profit over mission pay of C33700 from the sale of the Urban. You have also gained valuable habits which shall serve you well, Rockhopper.
